Optima Water Solutions is an STP Plant Manufacturer in Maharashtra. We design, install, commission, and maintain Sewage Treatment Plant systems, and hold ISO 9001:2015 certification with 12+ years of experience and 158+ completed projects across India. Our STP systems meet CPCB compliance standards and serve residential societies, commercial complexes, and industrial facilities in Maharashtra.
A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is a facility that processes domestic and municipal wastewater to remove contaminants before the treated water is discharged or reused. The process involves physical, biological, and chemical treatment stages that remove suspended solids, organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens.
Modern STP systems use technologies including MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor), MBR (Membrane Bioreactor), SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor), and conventional activated sludge processes — each suited to different capacities and site conditions.
In India, STPs are mandatory for residential societies above 20,000 sqm built-up area, commercial complexes, hotels, hospitals, and all industrial facilities discharging domestic effluent — as per CPCB norms and local Pollution Control Board regulations.
Maharashtra covers a wide spread of industrial and regulatory activity, from MIDC Pune, MIDC Nashik, MIDC Aurangabad, MIDC Nagpur to fast-growing residential markets. Rather than one generic Maharashtra-wide page, Optima maintains a dedicated, locally detailed page for each Maharashtra city we actively serve — including Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik and others — each covering that city's specific regulatory body, local industrial zones, and pricing.
This page exists as a starting point to help you find the right one. Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) enforces strict ETP and STP norms. Pharmaceutical, chemical, and textile industries face stringent standards. STPs mandatory for housing societies above 20,000 sqm.
Maharashtra is India's most industrialised and most urbanised large state, and its wastewater challenges follow that split. Coastal Mumbai and Thane discharge to creeks and the sea, Pune and Nashik sit on river systems with active pollution cases, and the MIDC estates at Taloja, Chakan, Aurangabad and Nagpur combine process effluent with large workforces. Several cities also face summer water shortages, which turns reuse from a compliance point into a cost saving.
For project owners the common difficulties are tight urban plots, phased occupancy that leaves plants underloaded, kitchen and clinical loads in mixed-use buildings, and factories that mix canteen sewage with process wastewater. Municipal plants in several large cities have been reported to miss prescribed norms, so regulators look closely at private plants that discharge or reuse water.
How Optima solves it: we match the treatment train to the site: compact MBR or MBBR for dense cities, modular MBBR for phased townships, SBR for variable-flow institutions, and a separate ETP for MIDC units. Every design carries a reuse loop sized to the consent conditions. The city pages below give local detail for Mumbai, Pune and other Maharashtra cities we serve.
Key industrial areas we serve in Maharashtra:
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) regulates STPs through Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate, both applied for on its online portal. Consent conditions on construction projects commonly require a stated share of treated effluent, often 60%, to be recycled for flushing, fire-fighting and gardening, with a meter to prove it, and online monitoring that links the plant to the Board's server. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai is itself subject to a consent that requires reuse of a share of its treated effluent.
Building rules tie occupancy to a working plant. Published guides report that the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) 2020 and Mumbai's DCPR 2034 make the occupancy certificate dependent on STP compliance for qualifying buildings, and municipal corporations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad ask for a valid operating consent. Projects above 20,000 sq m of built-up area also need environmental clearance.
MPCB's reuse-oriented standard for treated domestic sewage targets BOD around 10 mg/L, with limits on suspended solids, ammoniacal nitrogen, oil and grease, and coliform. Always design to the figures printed in your own consent.

Typical capacities in Maharashtra. Using planning norms of 135 litres per resident per day for housing, 45 for offices, 180 per hotel bed and 340 to 450 per hospital bed, with sewage at about 80% of water used: a 250-flat tower needs around 125 KLD, a 200-room hotel about 60 KLD, a 3,000-person office tower about 110 KLD and a 300-bed hospital about 110 to 120 KLD. Townships and municipal-scale projects run into several MLD.
MBBR, MBR or SBR across the state. MBBR is the standard for steady residential and commercial flow and scales well in modules. MBR suits Mumbai and Pune sites where the plant must fit under a podium and treated water has demanding reuse, including cooling towers. SBR is a strong choice for hospitals, colleges and township common plants with swinging flow. MIDC units in Taloja, Chakan, Ranjangaon, Aurangabad, Nashik and Nagpur need an ETP for process wastewater and a separate domestic STP. Use the city links on this page for local detail.
