Ion Exchange Systems

Ion Exchange Systems

Optima Water manufacture and supply following different type of Ion Exchange Systems:
Water Softner Plant
Demineralization Plant (DM Plant)
Electro Deionisation (EDI)

Water Softener Plant

Softening is the process of removing Calcium and Magnesium ions from water through Cation exchange. This is typically used to reduce scaling tendency of water used for boiler feed, or to increase the lather effect of detergents, particularly in laundries & process, Calcium and Magnesium ions in solution are exchanged for sodium ions attached to a cationic resin. When water is passed through this resin, the calcium and magnesium ions in the water displace the Sodium Ions, and adsorb onto the resin. During the regeneration process, a highly concentrated saline solution (15-30% NaCl) is used to “wash” the resin. This causes the Ca or Mg which is adsorbed on the resin to be replaced with Na.
Sizing of Softener is based on three factors; the capacity of the softener (flow rate), feed water hardness, and frequency of regeneration required.

Demineraization Plant (DM Plant)

We manufacture and provide demineralization or deionization plants for removing mineral salts from water by using the ion exchange process. Our DM plants are available in different sizes and materials, manually operated or fully Automatic, & ready to install & are available as standard models or custom built versions for specific needs. High purity water can be achieved by Mixed Bed Deionizers, which are designed to produce high purity treated water. They can be used as polishing units after two bed DM Plant to obtain high purity water. Mixed Bed Deionizers are single column units, filled with strongly acidic cation and strongly basic anion exchange resins mixed together.

Electro Deionisation (EDI)

We offer highly efficient EDI Plant. An EDI plant is used after RO for polishing of demineralized water to obtain low levels of conductivity and silica. EDI is an alternative to a conventional mixed-bed polisher.

Typical applications for EDI: Boiler feed water at heat and power plants, process water within the electronic industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and hospitals and laboratories.

Plant description: Flow rates 1 m³/h to 60 m³/h. EDI plants are either produced as standard modules or custom-made according to requirements.

Advantages: EDI is a continuous process and utilizes chemical-free regeneration. Therefore, regeneration downtime is eliminated and storage and handling of acid and lye are avoided. The plants are space-saving on account of the very compact design. The plants are of high quality, need minimum maintenance, and the reliability of operation is very high.
